This is a blog post on how to start a fashion blog even if you do not have any knowledge of blogging. There are so many niches you can go into as a blogger, but fashion is one of my favourites because you would never run out of content ideas to publish and there are always ways to monetize.
For an introduction, a blog is a form of website where you write content in the form of blog posts for people to see. It can be a part of a website or a separate website or directory, like the Luxraid blog. Companies can also choose to run parallel blogs on separate domains from their own and of course, promote whatever products and services they sell.
For instance, a web hosting company can decide to run a blog on tech or the make money online niche where they will be talking about websites while referring people to get hosting and domains for them.
There are hundreds of reasons to run a blog and they revolve around promoting your products and services. They also help to establish you as an authority in whatever industry you are.
Some of the types of articles you can publish on your blog include;
These types of articles will highlight events and happenings in the fashion industry such as celebrity outfits, fashion events, models and others.
You will need to leverage trends and possibly have a presence on social media to thrive in this.
By this niche, I mean guides on how to do it yourself, like teaching your audience how to tie gele or knot a tie. To succeed in this niche, you might want to consider running a YouTube channel or social media like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
This niche revolves around discussing what celebrities put on. It can also be a social media page like Facebook or Twitter and goes well with the fashion news niche.
This is a self-explanatory one and it simply means publishing content about different trends and outfit styles. There are countless cultures and styles and you will never run out of content.
These can be anything from clothes to shoes and even jewelry and people will always return to your platform to get ideas on what to put on.
Remember that you can create one fashion blog and queue in all these niches as categories.
To start a fashion blog whether for your own or business, some of the steps to follow include;
Normally this is the first step for anybody who wants to start a blog but in this case, it is fashion. You can check out the type of content you will want to be publishing articles on so you don’t get stuck along the line.
Various blogs have different posting schedules and you can pick yours. Some people publish once a month, some weekly and much newer bloggers are advised to write every day. You can also write and schedule the posts to go at different times if you have a busy time.
When you are done researching, you will have to pick a domain name. You can visit Whois.com to check the availability of the name you want to use. If the name is available, the next step is to purchase it as well as pay for your host.
A domain name is something like yourfashionblog.com and is the identity of your blog and should reflect what you are doing while a host is where the website will live. Take a host like an apartment you rent to live in or store your blog on.
To purchase your domain and hosting, I recommend Namecheap.com. You can get their shared hosting for less than $2 per month or even pay $22.88 for your first year and the domain will cost you less than $10. If you will be doing it yourself, your total spending will be anything less than $50 for both the domain name and host.
There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube on how to build a blog but I will recommend you hire someone if you are not getting it right.
One of the best web design brands I will recommend is Webx.ng and you can reach out to them. There are other web design brands and before you choose one, you can always ask for recommendations.
Setting up your own blog on WordPress is not difficult and with YouTube or Udemy tutorials, you can do everything in less than a week.
This involves checking out what your audience will want to read and of course, what competitors are writing.
There are a couple of tools you can use for your keyword research like Semrush, Ahrefs and Google Trends. The three have different advantages and pricing but Google Trends is completely free.
I like to combine one with Google Trends to get keywords and Ahrefs has a free keyword generator you can leverage on it as a beginner.
Now that you have written and published the article, the next step is to share it. You can share the posts to your Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn accounts.
It is also advisable you start an email subscription list and push notifications so you can bring back your users. For search engine optimization, you should set up your Google search console and submit your posts manually if they are not indexed after three days.
After everything, it’s time for the passion to pay the bills.
Some of the monetization options you can explore include;
Remember that all methods of monetizing your blogs depend on your traffic and number of active users so growing it is the key goal.
Affiliate marketing is one of the coolest ways to make money as a fashion blogger and I advise you to sign up to Luxraid to become an affiliate.
You can make anything from 2% to 5% for each product you sell and there’s no limit to what you can sell.
Fashion blogging is a fast-growing career and in a year of active publishing, you will be sure of earning from it. It requires much hard work of course and it’s a craft that needs to be learnt. There are a couple of YouTube tutorials you can hop onto and remember experience is the best teacher, so just begin.
